On the Nightstand

"On the nightstand" is such a silly phrase in my case. Let's just say that the piles have spawned other piles and the Society for Putting Things on Top of Other Things
would be proud if not downright bowled over.

In any case, here's what's currently on top in the The Book Lady's pile:
  • The Lives of the Kings & Queens of England by Antonia Fraser (because The Tudors, while sexy & entertaining as hell is historically inaccurate)
  • The Full Cupboard of Life by Alexander McCall Smith (a re-read of the 5th in the #1 Ladies' Detective Agency series)
  • The Elegance of the Hedgehog by Muriel Barbery (irresistible title & a bestseller to boot)
  • Knit Two by Kate Jacobs (weaker KnitLit sister to The Friday Night Knitting Club)
  • The Year of the Flood Margaret Atwood's brilliant, dark new novel
  • The Children's Book by AS Byatt. Rumored to rival Possession (just got it so don't know yet!)
Plus The New Yorker, the New York Times Book Review & The Free Press, that last publication being one of my personal top 5.

    Okay, just ran upstairs to check. I have 3 piles of books on night stand. here's one: The Under Dog by Agatha Christie, The Mysterious Affair at Styles by same, My Life in France by Julia Child (very fun! also is a good audiobook), Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte (amazing!!!! wonderful!!!), Ulysses by James Joyce (am reading this with online group on dovegreyreader.com, fun but, well, it's Ulysses), Ulysses and Us by Declan Kiberd (interesting), Mrs. Woolf and the Servants by Alison Light (very good), The First Poems in English by Michael Alexander (love this!), Mansfield Park by Jane Austen, The Yellow-Lighted Book Shop by Lewis Buzbee (fun), USA by John Dos Passos.
